Rethinking Gandhi: Guest Lecture by Dr. Alok Tandon

The Department of Education, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna, organised an online guest lecture titled “Rethinking Gandhi” on 24 October 2026 in collaboration with Loreto College (Autonomous), Kolkata, and St. Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), Mangaluru. Dr. Alok Tandon, Independent Researcher in Ethics and Social Philosophy, delivered the lecture.

Dr. Shubhra, Assistant Professor, welcomed the speaker and dignitaries. The programme opened with the bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To”.

Dr. Tandon examined the contemporary relevance of Gandhian thought through Ahimsa, Satyagraha, Swarajya, responsible citizenship, democracy and nationalism. His discussion highlighted the right to dissent and the need to respect disagreement, human dignity and ethical responsibility.

Addressing technology and artificial intelligence, he emphasised that technological progress should serve human needs and remain guided by human values and ethical judgement. He also discussed Gandhi’s exchanges with Tagore, Sri Aurobindo and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, alongside his views on culture, religion and communal harmony.

Participants engaged with the speaker during a question-and-answer session. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Anju Augustine, a student of St. Ann’s College of Education.
