A group of teacher trainees specializing in the science and maths stream from the Department of Education, Patna Women’s College Autonomous, completed an enriching five-day workshop on Low Cost Teaching Aids at Shri Krishna Science Centre, Patna, from July 2nd to July 6th, 2024. This comprehensive workshop spanned various scientific disciplines, providing practical learning experiences that are crucial for effective teaching.
The workshop began with an introduction to hydroponics, focusing on innovative methods for seedless plantation suitable for home environments by Mr. Krishnadu Chowdhry.
The following day, the Biology workshop was centred on constructing DNA and virus models. Biotechnology took the spotlight later, where trainees created educational models like DNA structures and bacteriophages. Practical activities, including observing microbial structures through microscopes and preparing curd slides, reinforced biotechnological principles in a hands-on manner, under the supervision of Gaurav Sir and Aftab Sir.
Mathematics was the focus on July 4th, with sessions aimed at enhancing student engagement and promoting mathematical literacy. Strategies discussed included fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills crucial for student development by Aftab Sir.
Physics sessions on July 5th offered hands-on experiments covering topics such as illusion, friction, force, and gravity. Trainees explored concepts like conservation of mass through practical demonstrations.
The workshop concluded with a Magical Chemistry session on July 6th, featuring laboratory experiments showcasing various chemical reactions. Trainees learned to detect gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide through flame tests and explored different reaction types, enhancing their practical chemistry knowledge.
