The Department of Education, Patna Women’s College Autonomous, conducted a four days workshop on ‘Fundamentals of Geographic Information System (GIS) and its Applications’ from 7th August 2023 to 10th August 2023, in collaboration with the Department of Geography, Patna Women’s College Autonomous, for the Social Science students of B. Ed. session 2022-24. Ms Meenakshi Mishra, Assistant Professor from the Department of Geography, was the resource person for sessions. She introduced the participants to the concepts and applications of GIS in education, enabling them to integrate spatial thinking and technology into their teaching practices.
The session also introduced B.Ed trainees to popular GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS and Google Earth Pro. It provided hands-on experience using GIS tools to create interactive maps and engaging educational content. Students also learned to add data geo-referencing and layers to maps and explored how GIS can be integrated into various subjects.
The GIS workshop for B.Ed Semester III students proved to be a valuable and insightful experience, empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to integrate GIS technology into their teaching practices. The workshop emphasized the importance of incorporating technology to foster critical thinking, problem-solving and a deeper understanding of the world around us.
