The Department of Education, Patna Women’s College Autonomous came together with gusto to celebrate the Feast of the Lady of Mount Carmel on 15th July, 2023. Special guests, Sr. Liceria, Superior, Carmel Vikas Convent and Sister Anandi graced the occasion along with the Head, Department of Education, Dr. Sister M. Saroj A.C. The Lecture Hall was filled with two-hundred strong students of both first and second year, teaching and non-teaching staff of the Department.

The Carmel Feast is a significant event dedicated to Our Lady Mount Carmel, expressing gratitude to Mother Mary, the Patroness of the Carmelite order. The Programme began with second-year students, Ms. Shikha Bharti and Ms. Vani Vaidehi welcoming the guests followed by the lighting of the lamp. A prayer dance, dedicated to Mother Mary, Mother of Mount Carmel, created a serene ambience. It hailed the Lady of Mount Carmel, who is the patron, protector, guide, mother and sister to the congregation of the Apostolic Carmel.

The students then invoked the blessing of the Almighty and gave a brief description of the establishment of the Apostolic Carmel by Mother Veronica on July 16, 1868, in France. The story of Mount Carmel was portrayed through a small skit, giving the message of silence, solitude, surrender to God and solidarity towards fellow beings.

The honourable guest, Sister Liceria, addressed the gathering, extending greetings and gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the solemn program. She serenaded everyone with her captivating persona. Her words of wisdom advised all to practice simplicity, generosity and empathy in order to become ‘authentic’ children of Mother Mary of Mount Carmel. She reiterated these qualities in a true Carmelite suggesting everyone to move ahead on the path of selfless service to humanity as the way to becoming one with God.

The Feast celebration culminated with a Hymn in praise of the Lady of Mount Carmel by the departmental choir and a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Bushra Siddiqui, student, session 2022-24.
