The Department of Education, Patna Women’s College Autonomous, organized an awareness programme on “Reproductive Health” as a part of an extension service on 21st March 2024 at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Patna. Through engaging presentations and interactive sessions, teacher trainees of the session 2022-24 addressed essential topics related to female reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), aiming to dispel myths and promote healthy behaviours among adolescents.
Furthermore, the presentation also focused on menstrual hygiene practices, emphasizing the importance of using clean menstrual products, changing them regularly, and maintaining proper genital hygiene. Myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation were addressed, such as the belief that menstruating individuals are impure or unable to participate in daily activities. Teacher trainees facilitated a discussion on STDs, including common infections such as HIV/AIDS, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and syphilis. Students were educated about the modes of transmission, symptoms, and preventive measures for STDs, including practicing safe sex and seeking medical care when necessary.
Overall, the programme represents a significant step towards promoting adolescent health and well-being. By equipping students with accurate information, debunking myths, and fostering open dialogue, the programme aimed to empower adolescents to make informed decisions and adopt healthy behaviours regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
