The Department of Education, Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), observed Anti-Ragging Week from 27 August to 2 September 2026 in accordance with UGC guidelines. As part of the observance, a seminar titled “When Community Fails, Laws Step In” was organised on 2 September 2026 for B.Ed. trainees of the 2026–28 batch.
Four groups of trainees made PowerPoint presentations examining different dimensions of ragging, including its history, institutional and governmental responses, and the psychology of abusive group behaviour.
The first group, comprising Nupur Pathak, Anjali, Asha Soren and Samiya Ali, presented “History of Incidents of Ragging”. The presentation introduced the trainees to the history of ragging-related incidents and the seriousness of their consequences.
The second group, comprising Urvashi, Jyoti, Prerna, Deeba Ambreen, Ruchi Sinha, Priyambada, Shristi Raj and Shruti, presented “Anti-Ragging Initiatives by UGC”, drawing attention to the regulatory and institutional measures aimed at preventing ragging.
The third group addressed “Government Initiatives to Curb Ragging”. Its PowerPoint presentation was delivered by Kumari Varsha Puri, Sister Jyoti, Bhoomi and Saumya Sahay. The presentation focused on measures taken to address ragging and protect students.
The fourth group presented “Psychological Analysis of Group Abusive Behaviour”. Vaishnavi and Shreya Das delivered the presentation, while the PowerPoint was prepared by Soumya Sakshi. The group considered the psychological dimensions of abusive conduct within groups and its effects on students.
Addressing the trainees, Dr. Prabhas Ranjan, Secretary, Anti-Ragging Committee, Patna Women’s College, emphasised that ragging should not be treated as a harmless tradition. He described it as a serious violation of human dignity and rights and stressed the importance of legal and institutional safeguards.
The seminar helped trainees understand ragging as a problem that requires awareness, responsible conduct and timely institutional action. It also encouraged future teachers to recognise their role in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.
